There's more than a hint of the surreal about Bar dos Arcos. Built among the foundations of the historic Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, the interior is all exposed sandy stone and vaulted ceilings, with long illuminated tables throughout the space, inspired by the famous hotel bar in Kubrick's The Shining. It's several steps up from your usual theatre bar, with a diverse food menu alongside a selection of innovative cocktails like the operatically-named Tosca, which mixes tequila, orange liqueur, ginger, lemon-tahiti, hibiscus soda and orange zest, alongside classics like the Corpse Reviver No 2, blending gin, vermouth, triple sec, lemon juice, sugar and a hint of absinthe.
