A faithful-rendering of a Parisian brasserie might not be the fi rst thing you'd expect to find in Melbourne's Central Business District, but Bar Margaux is just that. Its combination of checkerboard floor tiles, red leather seating and polished wood bar is distinctly Gallic in flavour, as is the burgundy-led wine list, but it's the house burger which has gained a cult following. The cocktail list opens with dinky versions of the classic Manhattan and Martini before moving onto twisted classics, like the La Maison Piña, mixing rum, cognac, pineapple, coconut, lime, pastis and nutmeg. There's also an elegant take on Happy Hour, from 5-7pm every day, with combinations of Champagne and oysters or burgers and Burgundy on offer.
