Multi-faceted mixology in motion

Nest by Pun is all about delivering a multi-sensory experience that goes beyond just good drinks. After locating the entrance marked only by a discreet red button obscured within the casual drinkery, Bar Pun, guests descend a flight of stairs into the subterranean space that feels fitting to its name. Inside the enclave, lighting is low and moody, and a metal mesh honeycomb forms a jagged interior that helps hammer home the bar’s imagery.

Hexagons also feature as part of Nest’s design philosophy, with its bar counter and tables all six-sided. Its award-winning menu, titled Tales of Nest, follows suit: pages of the drinks list take the form of a hexagon and are centrally bound, rotating to reveal each page. Guests are presented with 18 cocktails anchored in nine different categories, with each offering two creations grouped by a common ingredient, technique or process.

Creations come paired with short descriptions of flavour profiles and a quote to bring each drink to life. Coffee, for example, is showcased through the ‘bright and fruity’ Breakfast G&T (gin, citrus liqueur, clarified orange juice, cold brew coffee, tonic water, citrus shrub, lime leaf) and the ‘aromatic, wild and complex’ Madagascar (rum, vanilla liqueur, lime juice, cold brew coffee concentrate, spiced ginger syrup, coconut).

Other categories, such as highball, collins and clarified, all deliver equally intriguing and varied creations that take heed of the bar’s moniker, with ‘pun’ translating to ‘fragrance’ in the local dialect. If choice is an issue, take hold of the menu’s custom-designed coin, choose heads or tails and let the coin toss decide your incoming drink.

For its masterful design and ingenious showcase of cocktail creativity, Tales by Nest takes home the Siete Misterios Best Cocktail Menu Award as part of Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024.
