When chef Carlos “Chombolín” Alba opened Intimo in a small ranch-style home in the San Francisco neighbourhood in 2015, he shook up the local dining scene with the (then) radical idea of offering 90% homegrown ingredients, including some they grow on-site. With an ambiance akin to that of a good dinner party at the home of good friends—only 28 seats fill the space—the restaurant remains one of the most forward-thinking in the city to this day as it continues to excel at offering an exciting melange of regional flavours presented in creative ways. Be sure to sample options from the cocktail menu too as it features local ingredients such as hibiscus and an assortment of rums. The drinks from barman Robert Martin are considered some of the city’s most progressive.
