Located in Central Paris on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Le Bristol embodies a rich history dating back to 1925, named after the 18th-century traveller Bishop Frederick Hervey. Frequented by cultural luminaries such as Coco Chanel and Pablo Picasso, it became the American Embassy during World War II before later being acquired by the Oetker Group in 1978 to revert it back to its original purpose. In 2018, it completed a discreet six-year refurbishment to revitalise the hotel and regain its cutting edge. All 190 rooms – including the lavish 2,000 sq ft Paris Suite – blend Louis XV and XVI-period furnishings against pastel walls – think silk drapes, period furniture and antique mirrors. Bathrooms are classically opulent, furnished in marble with spacious bathtubs and showers kitted out with bespoke toiletries. The swimming pool room, bedecked in wood with a stunning mural, offers views of the surrounding 8th arrondissement, with the Élysée Palace, Musée d’Orsay and Arc de Triomphe, all within easy walking distance. As one would expect in Paris, excellent gastronomy is a must here, with the three Michelin-starred Epicure, 114 Faubourg brasserie and Café Antonia, all overseen by renowned chef Eric Frechon.
