Nested within a century-old building with exposed rafters and old brick walls, Meadowlark is one of the coziest drinking dens in Chicago’s Logan Square neighbourhood. The bar’s petite living room, decorated with vintage books and artwork, feels like the sort of place where you’d need an exclusive invitation to get inside (spoiler alert: you don’t). Those illusions dissipate as you’re quickly welcomed as one of the bar’s regular flock. The cocktail programme helmed by Abe Vucekovich, formerly of The Violet Hour, celebrates the history of the region via rich storytelling – the first menu was inspired by birds of the Midwest, and the second by Chicago’s role in the World’s Fair – with alluring flavour combinations often featuring local spirits and liqueurs. There’s no better place to settle in on a cold winter’s night.
