Casual, family run Mocotó has sated punters since 1974, though it’s taken an innovative turn since Rodrigo Oliveira, the founder’s son, has led the kitchen, with the restaurant now a regular on Latin America’s 50 Best. Diners travel to the off-central watering-hole on weekends to bag a table (no reservations) and savour northeast Brazilian classics: think oxtail cooked in black beer served with creamy corn grits, canasta cheese and watercress. Appetisers change daily, and hearty mains include tasty sarapatel (pork offal) and bone marrow stew; all dishes can be prepared to share.
