Mokonuts
Paris, France
All-day café and bakery run by a Japanese-Lebanese couple who bring punchy Middle Eastern flavours and pretty pastry work to their lunches and sweet treats. Moku makes the sugary stuff: tahini cookies; and hazelnut and kumquat galette. Omar takes care of the savoury side, with shrimps in sumac butter, za’atar labneh, eel with braised endive, and pollock with clams. Then they shut up shop as most restaurants are prepping for evening service, to go and make dinner for their family.
