Nestled behind rustling bamboo trees in an area of Tokyo known for its international community lies Sazenka, famed for Chinese cuisine made with premium, seasonal Japanese ingredients. Multilingual staff greet guests in Japanese, Chinese, English or French before escorting them into the former diplomatic building, which plays with polished wood, light and shadow to create an intimate dining experience. The brainchild of Tomoya Kawada, signature dishes include pheasant wonton soup and jellyfish salad, which diners are encouraged to pair with wine, tea or both. Sazenka made its first appearance on Asia’s 50 Best list in 2019, just two years after opening.
